Audience Review - Rizwana Jawid

The pre-documentary questionnaire was designed to help us understand what our target audience would expect to see be explored in our documentary. By getting the audience’s opinion on what they thought would make a good documentary and the issues they believed should be explored in the documentary, we could base our documentary on those elements and issues to the best of our ability.

The questionnaire was handed out to thirty individuals, fifteen of these being females and fifteen males. We chose to hand this out to fifteen females and fifteen males to keep a neutral response from the audience and make sure that the results were fair and unbiased.

The second question was set out for us to see what age category each person fits into and what their opinions were. This was done do that us as a group could see the responses of each of the individuals that were given the questionnaire based on their age and what they would expect to see and be discussed.

The next question that was asked was based on what main features of a documentary the audience would count on seeing. The majority of the audience responded saying that the main features that make up a documentary which they want to see be included are interviews, facts and figures and the voiceover providing additional informative information based on the topic. A minority of the responses received said that cut-ways were the main aspects that make up a documentary and the titles.

The next question was based on the relevance of the topic. A high percentage of the audience said that the topic of student behaviour is relevant in today’s society as student behaviour is on a decline. Another reason why they saw this topic being relevant is because students today do not have respect for teachers and elders. An additional answer from the target audience was that they believe that the topic could then be used to improve the education system.

The issues that should be explored in this documentary, according to the audience who answered the questionnaire are student behaviour, the methods that should be implemented into the education system to show improvement is student behaviour and achievement, what institutions are there to support students that require additional help to improve their behaviour, interactions inside and outside the class and class observations.

The last question was designed to understand what else the audience would like to see be explored in the documentary. The responses received were racism, bullying, verbal abuse, diversity of different ethnic backgrounds.

All the responses received from the questionnaire will be used and taken into consideration as to what we should include in the questionnaire.
